Matilda Phillips

Matilda Phillips is a multidisciplinary artist working across print, sculpture, metal, painting and drawing.

Her practice investigates organic movement through fabric folds, using them as a visual language to explore fluidity, rhythm, and tension. Initially drawn to the tactility of fabric and its art historical role as a secondary companion to the nude, her work repositions fabric folds as the primary subject.

Through close study and repetition, she transforms static materials into forms that feel dynamic and alive, capturing moments where material appears to shift, adapt, and hold an independent energy of its own.
