Louise Porritt

Louise Porritt is an artist primarily working across collage, assemblage and screen printing.

What began as a curiosity about colour and line has led to works that explore how these can be constructed through geometric abstraction. Line is revealed through composition, repetition and arrangement in various media, such as layered paper, gathered fabric or slanted wooden blinds.

An important process in Louise’s practice is hand-cutting and sticking coloured and painted paper. This process allows for the creation of playful colour combinations which inform larger works, whilst also maintaining the character of the hand done.

Sonia Delaunay’s simultaneous contrasts are a never-ending inspiration. Louise works with contrasts, selecting hues for how they activate, interrupt, and structurally affect one another when placed, scaled and repeated in adjacency.
